Greetings Listeners! Hope your holiday season is going well! Tonight for New Year's Eve, we have a special treat for you... The return of our New Year's Eve special! Enjoy this blast from the not so distant past! Regular programming will return next weekend.
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Did our New Year's special hold up over time? Does it take more champagne to make a good New Year's Eve party? Which pokemon do you think is the best dancer??? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Episode 58: the freezing fifty-eighth episode of the PokeProblemsPodcast. This week eveyone is sick, and Green Mario steps up to the plate to pretend to play Pokemon! We start off with a quick chat about Super Mario Run, and a spoiler free review of Star Wars: Rogue One! Miz Sylver sent us a list of news items to chat about! This included the Failure of the first Pokemon Sun and Moon Global Mission... The Wolf Doctor blames it on the extra step of registering to participate. Pokemon GO is having their Jotho Holiday Event through December 29th, in which you can catch Pikachus with Santa hats! They also have introduced "baby" Pokemon such as Pichu in egg hatching. You should all enter the Say YES to Nintendo 3DS Sweepstakes, being thrown by Southwest Airlines and Nintendo. Enter daily between now and January 15th.
Overwatch's Winter Wonderland special event is running through January 2nd, get holiday loot boxes that can include holiday skins, emotes, and more. Shantae: Half Genie Hero is finished, and if you Kickstarted it you should have your code in hand. We talk about Kickstarter, and how some great successes have come out of it, like Shadow of the Demon Lord.
Then we get to the heavy discussion: D&D Adventurers League! Greg Marks aka Follow @skerrit7h3green aka Green Mario talks about how D&D organized play is incorporating more writers and refuses to spill the secrets on the themes of Season 6 of Adventurers League. (Miz Sylver wrote an adventure for the current season, Giant Diplomacy, which is premiering at NewCon in Portland, Oregon December 30-January 1!) Greg does tell us about a bunch of new improvements being brought into Adventurers League. The new season will see more Tier 4 adventures (for characters level 17-20, high level characters!), to encourage players to continue through the league adventures. The Adventurers League has also incorporated player feedback to make the adventures easier to run. The adventures will feature highlighted story beats, to help ensure continuity between adventures, for example, if the players are supposed to retrieve an item for a later adventure, the DM will know in the current adventure; recurring NPCs will have added characterization so they a more consistent across adventures; encounters that utilize special rules will highlight those rules and have tips and tricks to make the encounter more interesting to play. In addition, Wizards is taking a more active roll in leading the D&D community, through customer service and organizations like the Heralds Guild. It's great that Wizards is paying more attention to D&D! If you want to see Green Mario in person, his early 2017 convention schedule is:
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Do you play D&D? What are your thoughts on Star Wars: Rogue One? Is Greg more of a Spiky Mario than a Green Mario? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Episode 57: the fantastic fifty-seventh episode of the PokeProblemsPodcast. Our special guest this week is Craig Herndon of Digital Precept! We have a fascinating conversation with him about what drew him to the world of VR, starting Digital Precept with his good friend Jonathan Schrack, the process of developing Digital Precept's upcoming VR title, Kung Fu: Shadow Fist, the stress of showing at PAX South, splitting his time as a member of the Boston VR community and the Memphis Game Developers community, and VR in general! Find him online on the web, on Twitter, on Facebook!
And of course his awesome team mates at Digital Precept, including Jonathan S., Jonathan Marlin, Desmond, George, and Francesca!
If you want to talk to Craig about VR in person (or just want to check out some great VR tech), go to next week's Boston VR Meetup, Thursday December 15th, featuring MakeField and Ilium VR.
We also talk about some news and events! Miz Sylver attended a talk last week on VR storytelling featuring Julia Sourikoff!
Thanks for listening! Do you have a favorite VR headset? Are you planning to go the Boston VR Meetup next week? Do you want to ask Craig about his favorite VR games? Do you agree with the results of our BroQuest poll? Are you only going to see the Assassin's Creed movie because Michael Fassbender is the hotness? If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
The Defenders of the Tri-Force Escape Room is releasing new dates in San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Diego. If you didn't grab tickets the first time now's your chance. The new tickets for San Francisco and Phoenix were available December 2nd, while the Los Angeles and San Diego tickets will be available December 5th.
The Game Awards 2016 happened this week. Pokemon Go won the Best Mobile/Handheld and Best Family Game categories. Miz Sylver's beloved Overwatch won Game of the Year!
We have a long discussion about Final Fantasy XV: BroQuest! Miz Sylver got the Ultimate Collector's Edition and has been losing sleep playing it! She picked up two bottles of Wiz's Energizing Elixer at Target, which is a creamsicle flavored Jones Soda themed to Chocobos. And we have a very important question for you:
Thanks for listening! Do you like the new tracking system in Pokemon GO? Did you score tickets to Defenders of the Tri-Force? Would you call it FFXV: BroQuest or FFXV: Goth Kingdom Hearts? If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Episode 55: The finest fifty-fifth episode of the PokeProblemsPodcast, guest starring KC of TheSwitchCast! The new TheSwitchCast discusses the latest Nintendo Switch news, starting with the promotional videos from Nintendo and following press releases and his favorite reporters Emily Rogers and Laura Kate Dale. Find all of TheSwitchCast's episodes online and follow the show on social media!
We also talk Pokemon Sun and Moon. KC has Popplio pride, and declares Sun and Moon the best game to come out of the main line of Pokemon in ages. We both have high hopes for Moon! (Did you know that Pokemon Stars is a possible title for the Switch?) On the other hand, KC has let Pokemon Go on now go walk out the door. The Wolf Doctor fills him in on the newest Ditto craze, even though she hasn't caught one yet! Thanksgiving is also a double XP event, so it's a good time to get back into Pokemon Go if you are feeling it...
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Will you start listening to the awesome TheSwitchCast? Do you have the same love for Sun and Moon as KC? Can we tell you're a ditto from your pinpoint eyes? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Episode 54: the faulty fifty-fourth episode of the PokeProblemsPodcast. We had a little recording trouble this week, so please forgive the iffy audio quality! Miz Sylver and the Wolf Doctor both had gaming adventures this week. The Wolf Doctor went to Tuesday's Boston VR Meetup! Their next event is happening December 15 in Brookline if you want to go! Miz Sylver, on the other hand, played her new NES Classic! And we both managed to enter the My Nintendo Holiday Sweepstakes! And now, we talk about Sun and Moon!
Miz Sylver toys with the idea of getting the Z-Ring Bracelet!
Tomorrow (Sunday November 20th) from 2 to 4pm, Toys'R'Us is having a Sun and Moon launch party event where you can get some really cool freebies, including a Meowth statue! (Check to make sure your local store is having the event!)
The November/December issue of Nintendo Force Magazine has a lot of features on Sun and Moon, including a sweet double cover featuring Solgaleo and Lunala.
We talk a bit about the newest 3DS utility title, SwapDoodle, the love-child of SwapNote and Art Academy. This title brings back the use of SpotPass to send notes and doodles to your friends. Don't post inappropriate content, remember what happened last time... We wrap up talking about some cool events that are happening...
Coming soon to a city near you, it's Defenders of the Triforce - Real Escape Game x The Legend of Zelda. It's sold out in San Francisco, LA, and San Diego, but there are still tickets for Phoenix. The tickets for Seattle, Chicago, Houston, and the New York area will be on sale January 3rd, 2017, so mark your calendar if you want to go!
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Are you #TeamSun or #TeamMoon? Litten, Rowlett, or Popplio? Would you like a centerfold of Professor Kukui??? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Episode 53: The fall-time fifty-third episode of the PokeProblemsPodcast! This week we discuss the latest updates to Nintendo's leading mobile titles, Pokemon Go and Miitomo!
Pokemon Go has added dailies! You can get a "First Catch of the Day" and a "First PokeStop of the Day" bonus, and build a streak over seven days (confirmed) and possibly over a month as well (still a rumor, but you might as well try it!). We also speculate about changes in Pokemon appearance rates, egg drop rates, and PokeStop item drop rates!
Miz Sylver reviews some of the upcoming metagame changes in Pokemon Sun and Moon. The new game sees a lot of changes in movesets, move stats like Power and PP, and hidden abilities too. (And we can't help but talk about Snorlax and awesome Z Moves!)
Miitomo has just had a huge update! There's a lot of new features, from small things like a new icon, to big things like sidekick Miis, and a lot of promos to celebrate them!
You can decorate your "room" now. Right now it's mainly flooring and wallpaper. You can get them through new furniture drops, and there's a lot of promo items. You can also do posters! You get one poster spot for free, the rest cost 99 cents a piece! You can choose your poster from your MiiFotos.
Answer Central and Style Central remind us of the Everybody Votes Channel! You can answer Answer Central questions and see answers from people all over the world! You can submit your outfits to Style Central and view other people's submissions from around the world, too!
Sideckick Miis are new! You can create additional Miis that you can dress up, put in Miifotos, appear in Style Central for you, and send Messages for you. You can scan Miis using QR codes!
Speaking of messages, you can now directly message your friends. Your character will send a private message to your friends. You can send one of your sidekicks, too!
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Are you going to the Boston VR meetup? Did you successfully score and NES Classic and an extra controller? Have you hatched a Jynx out of a 10 km egg, and cursed the day it was born? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
This weekend is PAX Australia! Of course, lots of stuff is going on, but we can't go :( This year's Pinny Arcade has an awesome Mario World 1-1 Set, which is available at PAX Australia now but will be available on the Penny Arcade Store on November 17th, 2016.
Mario Party Star Rush just came out! Along with a bunch of new Super Mario amiibo that are compatible with the game! We compare and contrast the new amiibo with the old! The Wolf Doctor is confused about Wario's biker past and is generally disturbed by Waluigi!
Animal Crossing New Leaf had a huge overhaul! Check out the video about the update Animal Crossing Welcome amiibo! There's so many new features! New items, new ways to get characters to move to town using amiibo and amiibo cards, and the chance to trade in your whole town for bells! (Be careful with that last one, don't delete the town without getting an offer from Tom Nook!)
The NES Classic (NES Mini? They call it a lot of different things!) is going to be out November 11th, and is already sold out in a few places. If you are getting the US version, make sure you get a second controller, as the system only comes with one! (And the controllers can be connected to WiiMotes!) The Japan version is a Famicom Family Computer version and comes with two controllers! Check out this awesome image made by Andre Ahlgren that compares the games available on the two!
In honor of all this, Nintendo is bringing back the Nintendo Power Line for one weekend! Nov. 11 to Nov. 13, between the hours of 6 am and 7 pm Pacific Time. Call (425) 885-7529! We believe that this is free... It's sadly not live help, just pre-recorded tips and insider stories about the hotline, but we're still gonna be calling!
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Are you going to sell your town in Animal Crossing New Leaf? Do you think you can best The Wolf Doctor at the newest Mario Party, Star Rush? Did you ever call the original Nintendo Power Line while your parents were asleep like Miz Sylver? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Episode 51: The frightening fifty-first episode of the PokeProblemsPodcast! Miz Sylver tells us about her weekend in New York for the League of Legends Championships Semi-Finals, where she was working at the Riftwalk. She was really impressed with the cosplayers! She talked with the women of Spiral Cats and the truly phenomenal Rhoulette Cosplay.
We talk about a lot of events, happening this weekend, next weekend, and the FUTURE:
BattleFy is hosting Splatoon Tournaments! If you are missing the Splatfests as much as Miz Sylver does, you should hit her up on Twitter (@mzsylver) to get psyched!
Smite players! The Reaping: Part III is happening over this weekend, it gets you bonus gems!
It's National Halloween StreetPass Weekend! Lots of other Nintendo games like Disney Magical World, YoKai Watch 2, Dragon Quest 7, and Monster Hunter Generations have free DLC to celebrate, check out the link for details.
Of course, we touch on all the official Nintendo Switch announcements. The Wolf Doctor is tentatively excited.
There's a Pokémon TCG Event at Toys 'R' Us (all locations!) on Sunday October 30th, from 2 to 4pm. You can get a free foil Charmander promo card and an XY—Evolutions Collector's Album (Volume 1 of 2). Plus, if you're one of the first 50 attendees, you'll get a special Pokemon figure!
Pokemon Go is having a special Halloween event, lasting through November 1st. You get double candy on catching, releasing, and hatching Pokemon, and quadruple candy when walking your buddy Pokemon. The appearance rate of many spooooooky Pokemon has greatly increased. Expect to see Gastlys, Haunters, Gengars, Meowths, Drowzees, Hypnos, Cubones, Marowaks, Zubats, and Golbats way more frequently than usual! (Also, we greatly appreciate the new Gengar loading screen!)
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Are you going to watch the League of Legends Championships tonight? Do you love the Alolan staters? Are you dressing as Gengar for Halloween? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Episode 50: The fun-loving fiftieth episode of the PokeProblemsPodcast. We have a very special guest this week, MisterMinor! He's a teacher educator (with a focus on adolescent education and literacy in the digital era), an activist, a dad, and big video game nerd! He's helping us out tonight by telling us all about the new Skylanders Imaginators, which came out on Sunday! The Wolf Doctor knows very little about Skylanders, but Miz Sylver has a copy of the new game in her possession! Our discussion transitions into how video games and digital media play into MisterMinor's literacy education philosophy. Catch up with MisterMinor:
Read some of his writing! His article Those Who Can Coach Can Teach was published about a year ago in the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy. He also writes blog articles in the educator space. His recent post Why #BlackLivesMatter in Your Classroom Too has been read in classrooms across the US.
See him at upcoming events!
Tomorrow he's speaking at the Teachers College of Columbia University Reading and Writing Project's Saturday Reunion. (In New York, NY.)
Thanks for listening! Sadly, we were unable to dig up MisterMinor's students' game with the explosive cars. If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Do you have questions for MisterMinor? Do you share his love of Skylanders? Is your figure collection larger than his? Will you run for president of the Official Wolf Doctor Fan Club? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!

And speaking of Pokemon, more Sun and Moon footage is out, introducing the new Type, Null! And the Aether Foundation, led by the glamorous Lusamine.

Finally, Miz Sylver talks Tacticon. She had a great time hanging Mayhem's Muse. One of her favorite streamers at the Con was Eswoogi, who speed ran FFVII at the Con! Miz Sylver was one of the judges of the costume contest, along with Sam and Mae of Anatomy of Cosplay and Michael, a designer who works with Mayhem's Muse. Miz Sylver got in a lot of fun gaming. She was on RT_LoZelda's channel to play Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, which we Let's Play'ed waaay back in Episode 4. She played a lot of Overwatch, and got to try out Overcooked! One new gaming idea she's excited for is the Board Gamers' League, which is a group where you record your score weekly on different board games to get ranked against other players to compete for prizes! There isn't a branch in the Boston area yet, but maybe our friends at the Compleat Strategist will start one! And don't forget, GenghisCon is being brought to us by the same team in the Denver area over President's Day weekend!
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Did you go to a Con over Labor Day weekend? Are you gonna get a PS4 Pro? Did you get Barret on the date in FFVII? Are there spiders everywhere? Tweet, email, or comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Episode 43: The frightening forty-third episode of the PokeProblemsPodcast. This is our first new episode on our new hosting solution! This is our Pre-PAX West episode, featuring an incredible interview with Lisa CherryAngel24 who was one of the Omeganauts for Pax East this past April. She was always a big fan of the Omegathon, and when her chance to be a player came she seized the day! She tells us about the process of becoming an Omeganaut, how she prepared for the contest, her hopes and fears, the perks like getting to go to media hour on the show floor, and her advice for future Omeganauts! If you are an Omeganaut and need a coach, or if you just want to ask her some questions about Omeganauting, you can email her at labmember004 at outlook dot com (you know the drill, substitute @ for "at" and . for "dot" and take away the spaces.) or hit her up on Facebook. She's ready to do a training montage with you!
Meanwhile, Miz Sylver is at Tacticon Colorado. We talk about all sorts of awesome stuff, like September 1st's Nintendo Direct, shown below the podcast. So much good stuff was announced! New Zelda amiibo are coming soon, Yoshi's Wooly World and Super Mario Maker are coming to the 3DS, and there's going to be a new "premium" update to StreetPass Mii Plaza that will up the number of StreetPasses that you can collect from 10 to 100!
Thanks for listening! If you have any questions or comments, we want to hear from you. Do you want to be an Omeganaut? Do you have a Charizard hoodie made of real Charizard? Have you seen this crazy Rainbow Road song video (linked below the Nintendo Direct)? Tweet, email, or
comment on the blog or Facebook to let us know!
Hello (Greetings) Listeners, as mentioned before, we are updating our podcast feed and hosting solution. We are converting over to LibSyn, which is a specialized podcast hosting site, and we are pretty excited about it. Tomorrow's episode will be the first new episode published directly on the site! Last week's episode, Episode 42, has been moved over to the new host. We expected our old host to kick the bucket yesterday, but the episodes appear to still be up. Still, we will be moving our old episodes over to ensure accessibility, which will be a slow but sure process, limited by our hosting requirements. Any episode whose show notes are marked as "Updated" in the title have been moved over. (New episodes starting with Episode 43 will have no comments about that.) If you have trouble accessing these episodes in iTunes or the Google Play store, please try updating your feed. Thank you for sticking with us through these technical difficulties!
